The Long Push.....
The forecast for Tuesday was very poor weather, and I didn't really fancy staying in Northwich, and my
web pages were getting behind, so I decided to push on for Whitchurch. This was going to be along day (65 miles),
but the route is straight forward, follow the A6 into Preston, and then take the A49 all the way to Whitchurch.
I followed the A6 into Preston, but things become unclear. I decided this was a good chance to use my Sat Nav
so I pulled in at the side of the road to mount it on the bike. What do you know, a couple pulled over to ask for directions.
I said I didn't really know, but I knew a man who did. Just as I started programming in the Post Code into my TomTom, they
produced there own. They said they borrowed it, but couldn't work it. So I programmed it for them, gave them instructions, and
waved them on there way.
The Sat Nav took me onto a B road, and then eventually onto the A49. Preston was quite good for cycle paths, both arriving and leaving.
I cycled a further 15 miles before I saw a B+B or hotel, so I am glad I stopped when I did.
The road took me through Wigan and Warrington, I saw the signs but didn't see Wigan Peer. I stopped off just before Warrington for Lunch;
a Baked Potato with Tuna. In better spirits with 33 miles down and 32 to go I set off. However it didn't last as for the next hour I experienced
cycle rage, as blokes in big 4+4s cut me up, and got in my way. I was glad to be out of Warrington ASAP. The road became a
bit more rural, and I continued on and on and on...
I was determined to make it to Whitchurch but my bum, legs and arms were getting very sore. If it hadn't been for the
fact there were no B+Bs, I would have stopped after 55 miles. But anyway I got to Whitchurch after 67 miles at 6.00pm.
As soon as I got the town limits, I got off and pushed!
I pushed the bike for 15 minutes, and was starting to get worried about the lack of B+Bs, but in the end I found a
pub in the town centre that did accomodation.
It didn't have central heating so I couldn't wash my cycle gear. I will have to wash both sets tomorrow.
I wandered down the high street looking for a curry house, but in the end I found a nice Italian. One Glass of Wine (250ml), and
a carbonara later I was heading for bed.
I think tomorrow will be a short day ( Shrewsbury probably ).
Only 300 miles to go...
