Back to Low Budget

I had a late start. The Ladies returned my dry washing with my breakfast, so it took me a little longer to pack than normal because I normally pack my bags before breakfast. I had my usual fat boy breakfast of a full English, and I am really going to have to think about cutting down.

But anyway by 10.15am I was underway. The day was overcast almost foggy, but not quite. I set off on the A49 again, this time with the Sat Nav in charge. It was going to be a short day (only 40 miles) and with a bit of luck I could spend some time in Leominster chilling out and shopping. The YHA was already booked so I shouldn't have to worry...

I followed the A49 all the way to Ludlow at which point the Sat Nav switched me onto some B roads. I had wondered whether it should have picked some alternative B roads earlier, but it didn't.

The scenery was good, the road skirted some big hills which were lost in the fog. I have a feeling the earlier short cuts might have taken me over them. Initially it was hard work out of Shrewsbury, but the road flattened out, and I made good progress. The villages / towns around here are beautiful. I was impressed with Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Leominster.

I left the main road at Ludlow, and here the dreaded squeak made its re-appearance. I will have to oil anything and everything tomorrow to see if I can shift it. It only appears on really hilly bits which this B road was.

I soon rolled into Leominster (at 14.30) despite stopping for this and that. It took me a while to locate the YHA. It is off a side street near the Church hidden from view, even my Sat Nav struggled.

I parked the bike and headed into town for a look round. It has some nice pubs and shops, and a proper Internet Cafe (free internet with every coffee), so I have taken the chance to update my web pages as much as I can.

The YHA hostel was a cracker, it was very modern with everything laid out well, and all the facilities. I ended up making use of the kitchen and cooked my own tea; Sausage Stew - Vindaloo stile.

The radiators were very hot, so I got my clothes dried as well.

Tomorrow is another short day; 40 miles to Gloucester. I will need to find some accommodation when I get there. The mileage is creeping down. Hopefully only 250 miles to go.
