Onto Gloucester and
a drop of wine...
Another easy start, I have only a short cycle to Gloucester, which if the
road are flat should only 3 and half hours. I cooked my breakfast for a
change. The reason I made sausage stew last night was so that I could have
sausage and bacon for breakfast . Once breakfast was over with, and washing
up done, I set about lubricating every moving part on the bike. Hopefully I
can stop all the squeaks and groans the bike has been making. I stopped
off to weigh myself, Mike Norman's prediction seems to be coming true,
because it looks like while I haven't gained any weight, I haven't lost any
either. I am still 17 stone 12 pounds'!! I continued along the A49 for a
bit before going cross country on the A417. I let the TomTom do all the
work. The road was fairly flat and easy going and not too busy. I had soon
done the first 12 miles and it looked like it was going to be a short day.
The weather wasn't sunny but it seemed a bright day.
I stopped for a quickish cup of coffee in a lay by. Two ladies were setup
in their van selling fried breakfasts, tea, coffee e.t.c. in the middle of
nowhere. Once elevenses were finished I carried on switching to the B4215.
Looking at the map I can see it now, but I didn't know it was there; I was
just poddling along expecting to arrive into Gloucester for 3, when I came
across the 3 Choirs Vineyard and Wine shop. Well you know what happens next.
I stopped off for a small wine tasting, 5 for £3.50. I found 3 that I liked,
but felt duty bound to try some more, so I had another 5. I was soon feeling
squiffy, but I chose 12 bottles to have posted home.
By the time I left 3 Choirs it must have been 3.30pm, so continued on for
the last 8 miles to get into Gloucester for about 4.30pm. The cycle paths
are good, but the signage is a bit poor, and I got a bit lost. I just
stumbled on a City Centre hotel which did me B+B for a good price, and
stored my bike safely, so that was good. I had a quiet night in, watching
the telly, and doing the usual stuff., and did manage to dry my clothes
which is always good. Tomorrow Bristol, which should be about 37 miles.
