To Bristol and
Rosie...
I had a nice breakfast and packed promptly and was all set for a 9.30
departure, but unfortunately I had picked up a puncture (number 3) on the
way into Gloucester. This was the first one which I hadn't discovered till
the morning. I set about fixing it with help from the hotel staff. I am
getting faster, it probably only took 20 minutes, but I also discovered that
one of the spokes was broken! Could this explain all the noise?
Anyway I set off down the Bristol Road towards Bristol with a plan of
finding a bike shop either in Gloucester or Bristol. The weather wasn't too
clever, and it was spitting with rain. I was looking forward to the first
bad day of the trip....
But then my luck changed, I spotted a bike shop tucked in one corner
(Striking Bikes), and he agreed to fix the spoke there and then. He did a
good job and suggested a much better route to Bristol (Cycle Route 41.)
I followed his advice and without too much difficulty found and got onto
the cycle path. The path runs between the A38 and River Seven, taking in all
the little villages, and also the canal. The weather cheered up as well, and
turned into a nice day.
The route was beautiful passing some really pretty views and lovely
villages. It added some mileage (7 miles) but was well worth the extra.
Eventually I decided to call Route 42 goodbye and take the direct route.
There is a line of hills between the river and Bristol which are killers,
the roads are really steep, and probably suggest how Cornwall is going to
be...
I got onto the A38 and let my Sat Nav take me to the hotel me and Rosie
are staying at. Sat Nav is cool....
Once checked in, and clean, I met Rosie of the train. We had a nice meal
in the hotel....
Onto Bath tomorrow and no cycling
