Success!!

(1001 miles)

I left Bodmin fairly early for me (9.30am) with a plan of pushing on for Penzance, and if time allowed Land’s End. The map showed that the A389 was going to be lengthened, and this would allow me to get to Indian Queens without going on the A30. It turned out that this work isn’t completed (started?), but the A30 had been “duelled” all the way to Indian Queens. So once again I was cycling in the 18inch portion of the road to the left of the white line that marks the road edge.

This section went very well until the road narrowed and returned to being a single carriageway. For most of the way the 18inch strip remained, but occasionally, mostly on hills it would vanish, and I would have to return to the road. However everything went without incident, and I arrived into Penzance at about 3.50pm.

I was in two minds as to whether to push on; the Sat Nav guessed that I would finish at 16.30pm, which I feared would mean all the shops would be closed. Anyway I decided to go for it, and try and pick up the pace. As expected it was very hilly between Penzance and Land’s End and my E.T.A. kept slipping back. I finally arrived at 16.50pm.

I feared it was too late to my have my photo taken with the post, but I got to the photographer at 16.55 and he took my picture. I was the last of the day, by 5.00pm he was gone.

I had been dutifully filling in me end to enders form all the way along. The Land’s End Hotel looks after this and so I got this processed. Result!! I should receive my £10 certificate shortly…

As an aside the Land’s End Hotel has a DX or maybe a HiPath 4000, so what do you know!

I sat and took in the view and had a leisurely ride back to Penzance. This was a cunning way of getting the mileage up over 1000 miles.

Back at the hostel I didn’t do any washing.

I wandered into town for tea to the “Bistro St Michael”, The customers and staff kindly donated some money to the cause, and bought me a beer. A thank you to them.

A late return back to the hostel. Tomorrow I will update the web pages, and a train ride home. I should be back in Beeston for 10.00pm.
