The Aim

Over three weeks in September / October 2007 I cycled from John O' Groats to Lands End, a distance of 1001 miles.

I stayed in a mixture of budget accommodation consisting of Youth Hostels and independent Backpackers and towards the end B+Bs and budget hotels. The accommodation chosen was because it was situated along the route.

The choice of routes is enormous, but I made the decision to  try and keep to the straightest line possible, but still stick to B roads and cycle paths when available. You can see the route I chose here.

On my web site I have documented my daily progress with pictures and thoughts which I updated at Internet Cafe's along the way giving a flavour of how each day went and also how much weight I lost.

I cycled for fun and as a personnel challenge to see if I can accomplish something that to me seemed daunting. I wasn't super fit, or very small, and was keen to prove that fat people can do 'sport' as well.

I raised sponsorship along the way and by the end my friends and family are donated over £2000 to the British Heart Foundation via  the Just Giving website.  The link to my sponsorship web page is here:
